The accessible and open technologies available today have changed the game for creators in the digital arts field. Digital installations, for example, can interact with visitors, offering an enriched dynamic experience. The digital work listens to the environment (e.g. visitor behavior, spatial conditions) through sensors (e.g. motion, sound, light, temperature, touch), while a program decides the response to the physical environment and the visitor. Imagine a digital flower blooming through a “dialogue” with the visitor, or lighting and music responding to the behavior of the crowd in a dynamic way.
Interactive installations are just one of the many areas of digital arts that our department treats. This field is supported by corresponding courses, which utilize accessible and open technologies, such as Arduino (the No. 1 digital development platform in the world), which was developed by artists for artists.
In our department, among other things, you will discover a new digital world, but mainly you will create through it in areas of exceptional interest, such as animation, virtual reality, digital games, interactive art and many more.
Panagiotis Papazoglou, Assoc. Professor of Programming and Computational Physics
