The international programme WETLANDS is implemented within the framework of the Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) and is organised and coordinated by the Department of Digital Arts and Cinema of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, in collaboration with Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and Aalto University.
The on-site phase of the programme takes place in Psachna, Evia (12–16 January 2026), with a focus on the Kolovrechtis wetland and the Euripus Strait, and concludes with the presentation of the research outcomes and artistic experiments developed during the programme. This final event is hosted, with the kind support of the Municipality of Chalkida, at its new hub “Co-Working Space for Digital Nomads”, Neofytou 3, Chalkida, on January 16, at 18:00.
WETLANDS approaches wetlands as dynamic and complex relational environments, where human and non-human agents, materialities, technologies, and ecological processes are interwoven. A central axis of the programme is embodied and sensory research. Listening, vision, smell, touch, taste, and spatial engagement function as methodological tools for artistic and ecological inquiry. Within this framework, participants develop artworks, prototypes, and interactive installations as research media, alongside theoretical, curatorial, and dramaturgical approaches to aquatic ecosystems, as well as critical readings of technology and its ecological entanglements in the context of the climate crisis.
The scientific coordinators of the programme are Angeliki Poulou & Dimitris Charitos (NKUA – Greece), Laura Beloff (Aalto University – Finland), and Mindaugas Gapčevičius (Bauhaus-Universität Weimar – Germany). At the core of the programme also participate faculty members of the Department of Digital Arts and Cinema of NKUA: Caterina Antonopoulou, Dimitris Delinikolas, Orestis Karamanlis, Alexandros Kontogeorgakopoulos, and Charis Rizopoulos, covering fields of interactive, immersive, and digital artistic practices. The consortium is further enriched by Nafsika Papageorgiou (NKUA – Department of Agricultural Development, Agri-food and Natural Resources Management). In parallel, the programme includes the participation of professors and artists Ursula Damm and Kerstin Susanne Ergenzinger, as well as collaborating artists and researchers from diverse fields, strengthening the collective, transversal, and interdisciplinary character of WETLANDS: Dr. Tanya Zervoudaki (HCMR), Dr. Maria Koutsodimou (HCMR), Dr. Iouliani Theona (NKUA), Dr. Chloi Pares-Anastasiadou (Max Planck Institute), Dr. Felix Bonowski (Bauhaus-Universität Weimar), Dr. Patrizia Contantin (Aalto University), Eleftherios Khrysallis (Bauhaus-Universität Weimar), Anna Pagkalou, Juan Duarte (Aalto University). The programme also involves PhD candidates from Aalto University, Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, and NKUA: Aga, Müge, Lilas Almalla, Tim Auzinger, Laura Eleana Bein, Sabah Khaled Abouelhadid Elsay Hassan, Zakhar Komarov-Zelinskii, Viviane Morais Dantas, Jan Laurenz Munske, Radu Paul Simon Reinhardt, Cosmo Niklas Schüppel, Wiebke Stark, Cristina Garcia Margarita, Anna Maria Galani, Elena Novakovic, Aria Saridi, Giannis Kranidiotis, Zacharias Ioannidis, Lars Kollros, Petros Andreas Tikpanidis, Dimitris Pafras.
