SYLLABUS


In this course emphasis is placed on how to understand the role and functions of Communication in every field of personal and professional life. One of the main objectives of the course is familiarization with basic communication theories and the recognition of basic terms and their connection to the field of digital arts and cinema. The aim of the course is to improve communication skills, with techniques derived from psychoanalytic, psychological and social theory. Basic references will be made in the field of new media, in terms of communication and various techniques.

In the context of investigating communication functions, there will be a theoretical presentation of basic concepts and models of communication, a presentation of the systemic approach with reference to issues of cybernetics and information theory, a first analysis of non-verbal communication as well as a reference to the aspects of the social field. The role of space, time and rituals in communication will become clear, while with the transition to interpersonal communication, expression and interview techniques will be explored, highlighting the dynamics of attitudes and positions, and how intersubjective mechanisms can co-produce a single meaning.

With the unit of communication in groups, the psychological and social dimensions of group functioning, the emotional life of groups and their observation with group techniques will be studied. Also, the field of influence of communication and the scope for changing entrenched attitudes through related cognitive models will be explored.

The approach of the course is such that communication theory is perceived as a pillar of vital importance in every manifestation of daily and professional life.

 

 The main thematic units of the course (per one or two weeks of teaching) are as follows:

 

1. The introduction to communication factors

2. Models of communication

3. The systemic approach (general principles - communicative games)

4. Non-verbal communication

5. Space-time-interaction in communication

6. Interpersonal relationship and communication

7. Psychological-communicative-emotional dimensions of group functions (observation of groups and group techniques)

8. Communication and influence (persuasion, compliance, obedience, attitude change models

9. The new media as a means of communication

10. Similarities-differences of old and new media (regarding communication capabilities)
