SYLLABUS

The course aims to introduce students to the concepts of non-linear and transmedia narratives. In the context of the course, the evolution of storytelling is studied in different artistic fields that use various analogue and digital media: from literature, theatre and fine arts, to cinema, multimedia, virtual reality, digital games and other forms of interactive digital art.

The course examines the different ways of structuring content in non-linear narrative projects, the main characteristics of transmedia narratives, as well as the possibilities provided by digital technologies for the production and presentation of such narratives. Additionally, the course investigates concepts such as transmediality, intertextuality, hybridity, interactivity and collaboration, using examples from a variety of traditional and digital art forms.

Finally, methodologies and techniques for the theoretical analysis and practical synthesis of non-linear and transmedia narratives are presented.

The main thematic units of the course are the following:

1. Linear narrative and key elements.

2. Non-linear storytelling and different ways of structuring non-linear narratives
