ACADEMIC QUALITY POLICY

The Department of Digital Arts and Cinema of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens is committed to providing high quality higher education to its students, but also to the effort to develop a creative research and work environment for its staff. The commitment of all the Department's members of the teaching and  administrative staff to the continuous improvement of educational and academic research and it's provided services is a strategic choice of management and responsibility.

The Department's vision is to achieve educational, research, cultural and wider social goals, in connection and cooperation with Greek and foreign universities, other educational and research organizations and community institutions, with adherence to the principles of scientific ethics, accountability, sustainable development and social cohesion.

The Department of Digital Arts and Cinema has established and implements a specific quality policy, which is fully connected to the legal and regulatory framework that governs the operation of NKUA. Through the establishment and ongoing review, redesign and redefinition of the quality policy, the Department is committed to achieving even higher performance and a widely recognizable profile.

All the internal members (administrative-teaching staff and students) of the Department participate in the development and implementation of this policy, with the appropriate  procedures.

The policy of the Department of Digital Arts and Cinema for Quality Assurance and its implementation strategy are implemented through the Internal Evaluation Unit (IEU-OMEA), in collaboration with the Quality Assurance Unit (QAU-ΜΟΔΙΠ) of NKUA. To ensure and continuously improve the quality of the educational and research work, as well as for the effective operation and performance of its services, the Digital Arts and Cinema Department follows and applies the criteria defined in article 72.2 of Law 4009/2011.

This policy mainly supports:

  •  the organization of the Department's internal quality assurance system

  •  the assumption of the responsibilities of the leadership of the Department and its individual units, the members of the teaching, administrative and other staff and the students, as well as the role attributed to them in relation to quality assurance

  •  the preservation of academic principles, the principles of research ethics and scientific ethics, the prevention of discrimination, the encouragement of the participation of external bodies in quality assurance

  •  the continuous improvement of the provided teaching and learning, the implemented research and innovation

  •  quality assurance of the study program and their configuration with the highest international academic standards and the special standard of Hellenic Authority for Higher Education

  •  the efficient organization of all services provided and the development and maintenance of infrastructure

  •  the availability and effective management of the necessary resources for the operation and development of the Department

  •  the rational distribution of human resources, their reinforcement for effective coverage of the Department's educational and research needs and support in their work

The main axes on which the policy of Quality Assurance and Improvement of the Department of Digital Arts and Cinema is structured and which are connected and constitute a key dimension of the NKUA strategy, are the following:

  •   The continuous reformation and improvement of the curriculum of the Department.

  •   Enhancing student-centered learning in curriculum design.

  •   The improvement of the performance and performance of the Department's students.

  •   Reducing the percentage of students who drop out or delay completing their studies.

  •   Strengthening the multi-level research project in the Department.

  •   Producing more and high-impact publications in international peer-reviewed journals, peer-reviewed volumes and conference proceedings.

  •   The continuous improvement of the working conditions of the scientific and administrative staff of the Department.

  •   Solving infrastructure problems

  •   The development of synergies between the Department of Digital Arts and Cinema with other Departments and Faculties of NKUA in undergraduate and postgraduate study programs.

  •   The strengthening of transnational cooperation and research programs that provide for the mobility of students and members of the teaching staff.

  •   The strengthening of collaborations with domestic and foreign institutions, the dissemination and strengthening of research projects and broader synergies, as well as the improvement of research project production rates.

  •   The development of the Department's extroversion and social action.

  •   The attraction of high-level faculty members from Greece and abroad.

  •   The contribution of the Department to the intended cooperation of the NKUA with the authors of the world ranking tables of Universities for the better promotion of the Department of Digital Arts and Cinema and NKUAinternationally.

  •   The fastest resolution of problems related to the implementation of the administrative project.

  •   The Department's contribution to the intended implementation of measures to reduce pollutants and the environmental footprint of NKUA due to its operation.

  •   The planning and development of actions and initiatives for environmental education, training, awareness and empowerment of students and staff members of the Department and other Departments of NKUA, the educational community of the schools and the general public, in matters of environmental quality, climate crisis management and sustainability .

  •   The creation of Postgraduate Programs with an emphasis on innovation, interdisciplinarity and inter-departmental/inter-institutionality.

  •   The utilization of alternative funding sources (participation in international programs, self-financed study programs, sponsorships/donations).

  •   Improving the organization and delivery of Lifelong Learning programs.

  •   The continuous organization and implementation of direct and indirect support activities for vulnerable social groups, both students of the Department and members of its human resources, as well as in the community.

  •   The utilization of the alumni network of the Department of Digital Arts and Cinema in the service of the academic and social goals of NKUA.

The strategy of the Department of Digital Arts and Cinema for quality assurance and the high level of the degrees awarded is determined by the multifaceted effort to guarantee the quality and completeness of teaching, to meet the needs of new scientific directions and concerns and to open up interdisciplinary and international collaborations in the service of the above objectives.

The results of this strategy are documented in the external evaluation reports, in the detailed information on the target setting and learning outcomes, as reflected in the Department's Study Guide, in the positive evaluations of the students of the Institution regarding the courses, in the full alignment with the European and International Standards (ECTS system), in the professional rehabilitation and social development of its students.

The Quality Assurance Policy is constantly checked, designed, approved, implemented and revised in the context of the operation of the Department's Internal Evaluation Unit (IEU) while it follows and promotes the principles of the Quality Assurance Unit (QAU) of NKUA.
