Being at the heart of health services, education and cutting‑edge research

Ever since March 2020, our country has had a critical and demanding experience emerging from the COVID ‐19 outbreak. NKUA was among the first institutions, in the country, which were most prepared to fight the pandemic, as incoming news from neighbouring countries anticipated the crisis.
NKUA’s contribution to the national effort has been constant and significant. The Institution has offered, and continues to do so, specialized action, on all levels of fighting the pandemic, shielding the health of all academic community members, at the same time.
The University’s main concern during this period has been to adequately and uninterruptedly cater for knowledge dissemination, cutting‐edge research, including COVID‐ 19 related issues, for producing new knowledge and providing high level health services to society and the State. This has often been highly demanding, in the unprecedented situations we have experienced, especially in NKUA’s Covid‐19 Clinics and in the Intensive Care Units, which have managed a significant part of the Public Health System workload.
The present edition briefly summarizes NKUA’s agonizing effort to respond to the tasks – especially of the medical and nursing staff – which is hard to fully record in a document. It also summarizes the struggle of hospitalized patients, especially in intensive care units of the University clinics.

Professor Meletios‑Athanasios Dimopoulos
Rector of NKUA
